Shimmering sunlight

Wood like this is the reason I love working with wood. The chatoyance of the curl reminds me of the way the sunlight reflects off of water. This is from the same slab as my platter that placed 2nd at the Turning To The Future Contest. This is made from Bigleaf Maple, and is 15”x1.25”.

Spalted beech salad bowl

This salad bowl is made from spalted beech and measures 12” diameter and 3.5 inch high.

After turning the bowl was then sanded up to 240 grit, then a covering of Yorkshire grit sanding wax applied and burnished then the bowl was finished with 3 coats of natural beeswax from a local beekeeper.
