Bold and Beautiful Bookcase

After a failed attempt at hiring someone to build us a bookcase, I decided to take on the project myself. This massive bookcase was handmade using pine wood. Then stained using General Finishes ebony dye stain.

This beauty is definitely a statement piece in our home.

This coffee table features elements that are rarely seen as well as firsts. The legs were made and milled using epoxy and walnut. The top has a walnut live edge slab invaded in epoxy. The bottom shelf appears to be floating and if you need anymore there is a wireless LED to give the piece some light..who would want this beauty in the dark right? Hope you enjoy it.

Apple Docking Station

This docking station has the ability to charge an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods simultaneously. All wires are hidden inside the cedar block and a convenient USB port on the back makes it easy to unplug any devices individually (if necessary).

This dock was constructed using precise measurements and tools. It was done by hand routing each port, drilling entry points and strategically chiseling a cavity on the bottom to house all the wires.

Memories Of The Sea

While we live in Montana my wife is from the coast. This project was made with her in mind and her love of the ocean. Multi layerd design gives this scene a 3-D effect. The cutouts were done with a scroll saw and are made from birch plywood, while the frame and drawers are out of clear localy sourced pine. The lower corners as well as the drawer pulls are sea glass hand picked in Maine.

Kitchen Island Overhaul

Took an old Formica Island top and replaced it with a black walnut beauty! Started out by laminating 3/4” walnut boards together to finish at 1.5” thickness. Sanded and shaped what little I wanted and then to the finishing phase (phases)! I used a couple of base coats of a homemade concoction of boiled linseed oil, mineral spirits and Arm R Seal in gloss hand wiped onto the walnut. The piece was then lovingly buffed to eliminate any imperfections. Next I put three coats of satin Arm R Seal to fully seal and protect the piece while decreasing the sheen.

This was a labor of love for sure! I initially had finished with pure Tung oil and the piece looked great but had a lot of problems, especially bleed back of the oil. I stripped it down and went over it with java gel stain and did not like that it completely covered my beautiful walnut figuring. What else to do but strip it back down and start over? I did just that! I used HPTC flat on the piece next with a danish oil base and it worked just fine but the HPTC just didn’t look warm enough for me. Given my thirst for perfection and high expectations I was left without choice but to start over yet again! This time I used the homemade mixture followed by the Arm R Seal and knew right away it was right for this piece! I allowed it to cure for about four weeks and then installed it. I think the results speak for themselves!

We will now be making walnut countertops for the rest of the kitchen and am sure I will be using General Finishes products there as well! I have been redoing our bedroom furniture with GF milk paint and High Performance Top Coat but didn’t get it finished in time for the competition due to building my daughter a playhouse for her birthday next week, so maybe next year for that one!

Headline Cornhole Boards

I did a little bit of everything while creating these tailgate sized cornhole boards. I used box joints to assemble the frames to make a more attractive joint that would stand out. The 3/4” birch plywood tops overhang the frames 3/8” and all the edges were rounded over. The circular detail on the back crossbar is made up of 3 separate pieces, all of which were joined together with domino through tenons.

The designs are made up of a combination of paint and stains. I enjoy working in layers to add depth to projects and this project was no exception. Using the bare birch as the lightest of three colors, I then applied red paint followed by blue. Both of these paints were diluted to give them a slight transparency. For the background, I used layers of gel stain and paint to give the appearance of newsprint. The underside designs were then created using just gel stain. Arm-R-Seal was applied to the playing surface, sides and legs to ensure the boards are well protected.

This design inspired me to make this the first in a series of Boston sports-themed cornhole boards that I look forward to adding to my portfolio.

Fireplace Faux

This was a team effort for sure. My husband, “the carpenter” behind Delilah Tree, helped me bring this vision to life. Her body is finished in Snow White Milk Paint from General Finishes and her rustic herringbone inlay was finished with an array of custom blended, oil based stains from multiple product lines. The rough sawn wood on the inlay was lightly sanded as to not remove the fabulous texture and depth it gives to the piece. Her finished look is exactly what I invisioned!

Master Bath Sliding Door

The customer requested a "Costal white wash" look and I think it was pulled off. This door was made from new poplar, then sanded and slightly distressed. I then used General Finishes Java Gel Stain to give the wood a rich and aged color. I then put a layer of General Finishes Arm-r-seal as a sealer. Then I used winter white glaze, applying and wiping off to achieve a aged look. I then used General Finishes high performance urethane as a top coat.

Office doors

These sliding barn doors were made in the shop and installed in the clients home to give some privacy to the office just off the entry foyer. I used General Finishes Driftwood Milk Paint on the doors. Then a coat of high performance top coat to seal it up and allow easier wiping off of the next coat which was General Finishes Winter White Glaze which I wiped off as needed to achieve an aged look followed by another General Finishes High Performance Top Coat to finish it off.

Fire Axe Flag

This flag has been one of my favorite builds to date and is proudly displayed on the walls of my Firehouse. My wife and I started a small woodshop out of our garage making wooden American Flags. After months of finding the right techniques and the right products in creating our flags, I wanted to do something different and meaningful for me personally, so I decied to design and create this custom Fire Axe American Flag.

This project challanged me in many ways, from the handmade fire axe (hand-cut and shaped with a jig saw), to carving out the enlay in the flag for the fire axe to rest in that encompassed part of the union and then designing and creating a detailed Maltese Cross with my department logo (in a photo editing software and then cut via a CNC machine, along with the "Firehouse 232" in the Axe handle).

The perfect finish to all of our builds is a few coats of General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. This not only gives our designs the professional look of a finished product, but also protects the piece so it will last for years to come!
