Angels' Song

This is a real violin that I found in pieces. I had to glue and clamp it back together and mend a gaping hole on the front, applied wood appliques, replaced 3 of the broken pegs by whittling dowels and drilled hole to feed the string through. I embellished with plaster dipped roses, the forementioned wood appliques .. vintage cherubs, and painted with a combo of General Finishes Antique White, Annie Sloan Old white, General Finishes pearlized Bronze for depth and sealed with General Finishes Flat Out Flat, final embellishments such as pearls and some rhinestones were added for the final touch. The bow was embellished with some ripped canvas, rhinestones and pearls

ABOUT
"Elizabeth" is a custom medium jumbo sized acoustic guitars built by Chris Giles - Gavin Guitars. Chris is a hobbyist guitar builder turning out 1-2 guitars per year during his free time from his basement workshop. Each guitar is given a name - Elizabeth in this case.

MATERIALS
"Elizabeth" has Indian Rosewood back and sides and an Engelmann Spruce top. Bindings are curly Maple and the rosette is segmented Cherry burl wood. The neck is a 3 piece laminated neck made of Honduras Mahogany and curly Maple. Tuning machines are Gotoh 510s. The finish used is General Finishes High Perfomance Poly.

FINISH
8 coats of General Finishes High Performace Poly were sprayed using a Fuji Minimite 4 HVLP system. The finish was level sanded after every 2 coat using 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper. The final coat was level sanded by hand starting with 1000 grit wet sanding working up to the final 3200 wet sanding. The finish was then buffed using Menzerna compounds on a shop-built buffer with cloth wheels.

Curiouser & Curiouser

Curiouser & Curiouser is an Alice in Wonderland themed acoustic guitar. The body back and sides are wenge with a maple top. The neck is comprised of 150 alternating pieces of wenge and maple. With extremely detailed inlays depicting Alice's descent down the rabbit hole on the fretboard and an ash silhouette of Alice herself on the back, Curiouser & Curiouser will surprise you at every turn. I sealed the grain with Stewart MacDonald ColorTone waterbase grain filler. I then sprayed 45 coats of Dupli-Color "Paint Shop" gloss clear coat lacquer applied with an Apollo Sprayers Power 3 system. After curing, I sanded the body and neck starting with 300 grit sand paper and finishing with a 2000 grit wet sand. Buffing was done on a Stewart MacDonald buffing arbor with 14" Domet cotton wheel and fine grade Steward MacDonald buffing compound. I ended by giving the instrument a soft polish with Stewart MacDonald Preservation Polish.

Desperado

"Desperado" is a western themed custom six string electric guitar. The body and neck are cherry with a hand aged pine top. Real Winchester 45 colt casings inlayed in the fretboard, Remington 12 gauge shells for the volume and tone knobs, hair-on hide pickguard and hardware that is rusted to perfection, "Desperado" is a tribute to the wild west. I sealed the grain with Stewart MacDonald ColorTone waterbase grain filler. I then sprayed 30 coats of Dupli-Color "Paint Shop" gloss clear coat lacquer applied with an Apollo Sprayers Power 3 system. After curing, I sanded the body and neck starting with 300 grit sand paper and finishing with a 2000 grit wet sand.
