This Table which is made of 100 year old tobacco barn pine features poplar trim edges, fire cured hairpin legs, and torched accents on the grain. The design of the pattern Hints towards the central point of the barn it was built from. It’s meant to be simple, central, elegant, and functional.

Using general finishes Gloss has been a game changer. Paired with General finished seal-a-cell I attain a near perfect shine. These particular tree stumps are 8’x5’ and are estimated to be 200 years old. When my client asked for tables to display in his new commercial restaurant, I knew I needed a product that not only gives the best protection but that really brings out the beauty in the wood. I always start with a coat of GF seal-a-cell, after letting the piece dry I begin my first coat of GF Arm-r-seal Gloss, I sand with 320 grit in between every coat assuring I have a smooth service free of any debris. Once my project has been completed I then begin wet sanding and buffing to attain a grand piano finish. This project took just over 5 quarts of gloss finish!

Trestle table

Ten foot trestle table made from reclaimed Lumber from a southern Wisconsin rail road undocking house. Bottom finished with GF Antique White and top with GF medium Brown Wood stain. The table was finished with Enduro Clear poly in a satin sheen.

Bicycle Table

A client was looking for a new table for a specific location in their home and I immediately knew what I wanted to do. They are both avid cyclists and I thought it would be really fun to incorporate that in to my design and I knew a bicyle would be the perfect length for the space they needed. I was able to salvage the most beautiful piece of reclaimed barn wood from inside of a 100-year-old general store that was due to be demolished in Sanford, FL. (I actually fell partially through the roof to get that piece of wood but it was worth it!) I wanted an antique bicycle for the project but I couldn't find one that worked so instead I found a curbside hot pink bicycle and used patina products to "age" it. It was perfect! I drilled a hole through the reclaimed wood after cutting it to size and inserted the handle bars through the piece. I used metal plumbing pipes to build a sturdy frame and attached it to the wood piece using pipe fittings. I used jute cord to wrap around the handle bars and inside the tire frames for an added special touch. The piece of barnwood was sanded and stained a nice driftwood color to match the clients home and finished with a matte polycrylic.

Walnut and Oak Entry Table

This table was a wedding gift for my youngest son and his bride. The table features a drawer with full extension slides, a lower shelf unit, and tapered legs. The apron, drawer and legs are made of White and Red Oak, and the lower shelf of Poplar. My father in law gave me some rough milled Black Walnut for the top panel, making it an heirloom piece for the new couple.

The apron, legs and shelf were finished with a 1:1 mix of Halcyon Blue and Coastal Blue General Finishes Milk Paint. Paint was mixed in small quantities and worked in small areas at a time. After two coats of milk paint, it was sealed with High Performance Topcoat, then Pitch Black Glaze Effects was applied (again, in small areas). High performance water based topcoat was applied over the glaze effects to seal the entire apron and leg assembly.

The Black Walnut top panel was sanded to 220 grit and finished with Arm-R-Seal, applied with a soft, lint free cloth. Each coat up to the last was lightingly buffed with #4/0 steel wool.

Modern coloring on the legs and apron, classic finish on the top, and a bit of an arts and crafts feel on the lower shelf. A bit of an eclectic piece made for two very special people.

Wide Plank Oak Herringbone Dining Table

Our clients purchased an historic home with a very large formal dining room. They had some other large pieces of furniture that they’d collected in their travels being stationed all over the U.S. during the husband’s military career, and they wanted a large, handcrafted dining table to be a statement piece in their home. The initial request was “I want something larger than life!”

We constructed the trestle table base of southern yellow pine, after which it was painted with General Finishes Dark Chocolate Milk Paint, lightly hand distressed, then overglazed with General Finishes Yellow Ochre Glaze Effects. Our clients thriftily sourced chairs which were repaired, then painted and glazed to match the table’s trestle base.

The tabletop was constructed of 5” wide oak flooring, which was assembled in a tray made from cabinet-grade plywood for stability and a way to anchor each of the boards as would be done in a normal floor application. A thick, oak border surrounds the edge, to give a look that the table is actually much thicker than it is. Anchor points were covered with decorative walnut plugs. The tabletop was stained with General Finishes Colonial Maple Gel Stain and further sealed with General Finishes High Performance Polyurethane in Satin.

A matching bench was constructed of solid oak, with plug detailing, trestle base, using the same finishing process, colors, and products.

Curved Walnut Combination Computer & Sofa Table

Hand cut and assembled from walnut, this table serves a dual function. A lovely fireside sofa table and a computer desk with electrical running up the inside of one of the legs. Finished with a 50|50 mix of General Finishes Java and Nutmeg Gel Stains, topped off with 3 coats of Arm-R-Seal Satin.

American Chestnut Supper Table

It took ten years of woodworking to come across the perfect wood for our own dining table. Reclaimed wood is our passion and this salvaged wormy chestnut was perfect! Saved from an East Tennessee tobacco barn facing destruction, we gave it new life.

The table and bench base is maple, including the matching turned legs. Hard to see from the picture but we started with General Finishes pre stain conditioner, then two coats of GF Antique Oak stain, followed by some GF High Performance. And finally finished with GF Lamp Black milk paint. Ultimately, we decided not to distress any of the paint. Rather, over time any damage will reveal the stained legs that match the table top.

The top began with 500 board feet of wormy American Chestnut, in very poor condition. So, I did what any good woodworker would and named each piece, then nursed it back to life. The table is 9’ long, 42” wide. Most pieces were not long enough, so I hand cut half lap joints to get the length we wanted. Then, carved dowels from scrap pieces to secure the joints. Finally, it’s finished with several coats of Arm-R-Seal.

The unique characteristics in the wood tell it’s own story and it provides a perfect place to gather at the end of the day.

Trestle Table & Bench

I built this trestle for good friends of mine. It is constructed with Spruce using all mortise and tenon joinery. The bench slides under the tabel for storage. I finished it off with GF Oil Based Gel Stain in Java, one of my favorite colors to use.
