When one of my best friends from FOREVER ago contacted me to make a sign for her dining room, I jumped at the chance. Nevermind that she lives 3 states away! Your bestie asks and you deliver. I loved using actual pallet wood for this one. It was the first time I had to tear apart a pallet...in the 100 degree heat. Ok, maybe it was only like 85, but it sure felt like 100! No matter, it was all worth it in the end.

If you know anyone who has kids who wrestle, you know wrestling is life for a few months of the year. That is the case with one of my dear friends and her kids. They are all wrestlers and for years they live, eat, and breath wrestling in the winter months. She asked me to create a sign for her family that embodies their love of the mat. This was a particularly special sign to me as my friend lost her oldest child to suicide in August of 2016. He was the one who started the wrestling trend in the family and even has wrestling shoes engraved on his headstone. I knew I needed to do this one justice. Not only for the kids who still love to leave it all on the mat, but also for Payton, who was also a dear friend to me. The tears I saw when I delivered this sign let me know, it did just that.

Buffalo plaid is THE in thing for the holidays the last few years and this sign has been a huge hit since I made the first one in November of 2017. The process with creating this sign is very involved, but also SO much fun. Taping, painting, more taping, more painting, rinse and repeat. But just look at the statement it makes!

In the summer of 2017 my oldest niece was celebrating her High School graduation and 18th Birthday on the same day. I knew I needed to create something epic for her. This beautiful little girl changed our entire family in so many amazing ways. She was the first grandchild, my first glimpse at the next generation of our family. The song "I Hope You Dance" has always brought joy to my heart, with it's message of not letting the world get you down and enjoying the good in life. This was the message I wanted to send her into the world with.

Celebrate Love

I started making these wedding signs when two of our dear friends were getting married last spring. Since then, they have been used in wedding decor and many couples have received them to celebrate their special day. What I love so much about creating them is they can capture the couple in just a few simple images.

This sign was for a couple who loves to vacation in the North Woods of WI and who hail from St. Louis and now live in the Milwaukee area. We incorporated the woods in the neutral tree scape in the background and added a touch of home with the St. Louis Arch between their names.

Brown Hall Sign

The Brown Hall Sign was made for a horse training facility. It is displayed at horse shows to promote their business. It is made primarily of mahogany along with other woods. The face is composed of a variety of inlaid woods that are cut by hand and assembled like a puzzle to form the sign’s image. For example, the pineapple is made of maple cut within the mahogany background. The black lettering is inlaid ebony. Identical images are on both sides of the sign.

The finish recipe began by sanding the wood surfaces to a smooth feel. Then I applied a coat of General Finishes Seal-A-Cell, followed by multiple coats of GF Satin Arm-R-Seal. A light sanding with fine sandpaper between coats resulted in a smooth final finish. A hand-rubbed coat of Minwax Paste Furniture Wax completed the finish.
