Coffee Table Footlocker

While salvaging items from a 100-year old General Store in Sanford, FL that was set to be demolished I came across this old Army footlocker. The first thing that got me excited was the fact that the former owner's name was written on one side! I immediately started researching to see if any remaining relatives happened to still be in the area because I would have loved to repair the trunk and return it to them. Unfortunately I hit quite a few dead ends and found no one that seemed to be related. I did, however, uncover some records that show that this particular solider was actually stationed all the way in Antartica! After striking out on finding family members I decided to keep the trunk for myself and repurpose it in to a coffee table! I love the fact that my family can now say that our little coffee table has traveled to the south pole! I used several colors of chalk paint on the outside, blending them while wet. I also used patina products on all the metal rivets and embellishments to cover the previous rust and get a more antique look. I replaced the handles with new leather handles and then decoupaged the interior with 1960's road maps I also salvaged.

The Tiny House Twin Headboard

This vintage twin headboard has been totally updated with fresh new paint and fabric. The "house" was painted in bright white paint with pink and green accents in the gingerbread trim, shutters and door fronts. A topcoat was then applied to protect the finish. Adorable framed forest friends fabric was used to line the interior of the headboard of the bed that dreams are made of.

I had a mixing party until my heart was content and I came up with this beauty! I can’t even tell you exactly how much of each color I used but Snow White, Emerald, Coastal Blue, and Persian Blue color Milk Paint all went into the mixing madness. The top of this was also stripped and restained in antique walnut gel stain.

This Antique Oak Eastlake style dresser was given a "makeunder!" It was stripped of layers of paint, stain and varnish and fine sanded to reveal all its natural beauty. It was then whit washed with GF Antique white milk paint and sealed with white wax for a super, smooth driftwood finish. The hardware was replaced with pulls wrapped in jute. Great understated look!

Antique Radio Cabinet

This antique radio cabinet had seen better days but I couldn’t pass it up because I loved the style and the history behind it. The veneer top was not salvageable so it was left to soak with wet towels overnight so that it could be easily removed the next day. The body of the cabinet also had some peeling veneer. Loose pieces were removed but instead of removing all of the veneer, I thought I’d embrace the natural texture the missing pieces created and add to it. I used plaster of paris and Dixie Belle Sea Spray to make a paste that was spread over the piece with a putty knife creating more texture. Once dry, the body was painted using Behr’s Tsunami and Valspar Blueberry Pie (both mixed with calcium carbonate to create a chalk style paint) in a faux style finish. Top was stained in Varathane Wood Stain in Kona. New shelving and a new back were added. So much character in a small piece!
