Decoupaged Primitive Trunk

This trunk was split and falling apart. I used wood glue and bar clamped it .. Filled in holes and replaced hinge screws. I painted the base in Annie Sloan Coco and used some General Finished Dark Chocolate mixed with floetrol and made a glaze and did two heavy coats of glaze and wiped some back here and there to create multitoned dimension. This is my first decoupage project. I had some paper bags from walmart and other places and I tore these up crumbed them and dipped om a bowl of water .. I applied with modge podge until I ran out and had to water down some Gorilla Wood glue. I sealed with General Finishes high performance satin 3 coats .. the base I sealed with General Finishes Flat Out Flat

A humidor becomes a toilet paper cabinet

The powder room needed a convienent extra paper holder. I took what I believe was a vintage small interesting cabinet that orignially held a tobacco humindor stored inside and had a ash tray on the top which rested in a circle cut in the top. The cabinet held three rolls of paper which seemed good since there was a basket in the bathroom that held five additional rolls.

I ordered a man made white marble top to cover the hole in the top. This added a bit of upscale detail. Then I decoupaged three sides and the bottom bulb of the legs with the black and white checked Mackenzie Childs napkins. I cut a frog from a different MC's napkin to decoupage on the checked napkin. The cabinet was sealed with Minwax polycrylic.

This goes with the theme of the powder room where a collection of frogs is displayed. I used the gold, silver and copper metallic paint to highlight some of the turnings on the humidor. The top of the cabinet is staged with a family of frogs who are reading or listening to a story book. The humidor went from an interesting repurpose to a whimsical repurpose in black and white that surely makes folks smile.

I had to really think outside the box when I found this mid century vintage beauty ..She had great bones but her poor leather top had seen better days. I decided to decoupage the top with a cool old world map poster and add matching knobs. The body was painted with General Finishes Lamp Black and sealed with High performance top coat. I love her new Character!

There are many times as refinishers we say, "Yes, but you should have seen it before!" This is one of those pieces! This little guy had LAYERS of paint that were not coming off with any stripper I tried...and I tried a LOT! I had to break out the heat gun to get all of those layers off. The payoff...this beauty! The top is a beautiful fabric with french script that added to the charm of this beautiful piece.

50's Design

This mid century chest was beat up and had deep scratches into the wood. I decided the best option was to decoupodge the piece to hide the deep marks. I painted the piece lamp black than measured and cut the poster to fit well onto the drawers, than I used modpodge to adhere the pieces. Once it had set into place and dried I lightly sanded the edges and parts of the poster to give it an aged appearance. It found its new home for family media center room.

Dixie Style Decoupage Dresser

Last summer I brought home this dresser from my road trip to New Jersey & Pennsylvania. This particular dresser is a Dixie style popular from the 1950's. This piece was my aunt's childhood dresser. It eventually was used by my 94 year old grandmother while she was in a nursing home. She passed away two years ago. Since then it's been sitting in a shed at my aunt's house in New Jersey. I told my aunt I could breathe new life into this piece so it can be enjoyed once again. She of course said, "Go for it!"

I decided to mod podge 3 out of the 4 drawers with this FANTASTIC contact paper from Hobby Lobby. This map is done in pastel colors and has a very antique vibe to it. I painted the top drawer Sage Green by Valspar and the rest of the dresser in a medium gray color called Cathedral Stone, also by Valspar.

Floral Creme Jewelry Box

This beauty was given a romantic makeover with a little paint and some really pretty floral paper.

Once cleaned and sanded and the glass removed from the door, it was painted with Wise Owl Creme and slightly distressed with fine sandpaper. The original velvet was in excellent condition so it was cleaned and kept. Decorative scrapbook paper was applied to the glass for the doors, front side and back (so that it's mirror reflection is as lovely as it's front) and it was all sealed with GF HPTC Flat. Its perfect for the romantic in you!

This wooden star is now the star of your Christmas decorations after its makeover. It was painted with GF Lamp Black and vintage music sheets were decoupaged on using Modge Podge in a patchwork pattern. The lettering was hand painted on using the Lamp Black and it was all sealed with GF HPTC in Flat. So tell me now, I bet your started humming it in your head!!!
