I turned this fabulous all solid oak wood bed into a beautiful comfy bench. I painted it in a worn white and glazed it heavy in some areas to create a old wood look. I distressed it to allow the natural wood tones to highlight it. I then added french style appliqués to the front of the foot board for added detail. I had my daughter cut me a vinyl stencil quote- Home I added the vinyl directly to the bed then I sealed the entire piece with satin top coat by General Finishes. I then bought foam for the cushion and used a upholstery spray to mount it to the plywood seating. I then covered the foam in a pretty material and stapled it to the underside of the wood. This bench has a story to tell from the little girl that once owned it, only to have her mother buy it back from me after seeing the Bench. Then selling it back to me a year or so later. She had no more room for it. It now is in a new home to a grandmother who lost her grandson at birth. The bench was shipped with his name to be added that I had made for her. The bench now is a remembrance of her darling grandson. I meant a sweet heart broken woman who shared her story with me. I was thrilled it now has a special meaning for her and I could help her.

What was the first project you did to sell in your business? We all remember our first sale. The exhilaration. The shock. The "oh crap, what do I do now?" feeling. Meet my first project as Dandelion Designs. These cute chairs were a garage sale find. Unfortunately for me there was only 2 of them because I could have sold 20 of them, the interest was THAT great in these beauties!

The back tulip shape was just begging for a decoupage and it added such a wonderful touch.

I picked up this vinyl chair from a garage sale and knew it immediately required a much needed makeover. I painted the vinyl with a special paint made for vinyl, fabrics, leather, and more. I then painted the wood legs and parts. The chair had exsisting nailheads that I also painted and went back to add silver rub n buff to make them shine. For the finishing touches the seat was covered with a burlap coffee sack.

Now we can sit back sip some coffee, and enjoy this refinished chair.

Fabulous Figural Chairs

These fantastic chairs were once stained in blonde oak and upholstered in a very dated, busy tapestry fabric. Consequently, the figural details were lost in the monotone finish the wood and the design and texture of the fabric. The carved relief, piercings and details of the chair frames were brought to life with layers of Gray Limoge and Palace Gray Paint. For further enhancement, Pearl Effects in Argentine and Burnished Pearl were applied using a combination of dry brushing and wet distressing. Van Dyke Glaze was also applied "age" the finish. Top coat was then applied to protect the finish. Rich, gray velvet fabric was selected to compliment the chair frames without stealing the spot light or overpowering the gorgeous carvings or new finish Ornate arch cup hardware pulls were attached to the back of the substanial side chairs to allow them to be easily drawn for seating. Complete as a set of six with two arm chairs and 4 side, these chairs are fit for a king, queen and the rest of the royal family.
