Madly Whimsical Bench

Such a shabby dresser with amazing bones. Someone loved it to death and I knew I needed to bring it back to life! What more could I do than turn it into a whimsical bench. Threw out some drawers, cut off the top, and rebuilt it from the bottom up! Painted it in a gorgeous shade of deep turquoise, added GF Van Dyke Brown Glaze to make the details pop and finished up with a few layers of GF High Performance top coat! LOVE!

antique drafting table into functional drafting coffee table

This pre 1930 drafting table belonged to my dad and has been in family for 40 years and just sitting in my rafters collecting sawdust. I enjoy chopping old things up (repurpuse) and making them useful again so this what I did. I stripped in down with stripper then tore into it with 80 grit (the top was pretty beat up) then went up to 220 before adding the general finish gel stain. Tackling the height and to continue to make it functional took some time and reworking some existing parts but it came out to 21 inches high and is still fully functional. I used some oak from a pre 1920 Murphy bed I repurpuse to a TV cabinet for the shoes. The basswood on top has 2 coats of arm r seal added just today to make the cut,ha. Hope ya'll like it,this is my favorite piece I've done to date. Oh,first time using a gel stain and absolutely love it.

The last couple years my brother, my sister-in-law and my nieces have been facing one challenge after another. Coming out successfully from one only to be hit with another. My SIL has always loved country chic so when she started talking about redoing their kitchen, I offered to make them an island. I wanted to give them a little sunshine on the dark periods they were experiencing.

I had a child size oak desk that had the pullout shelf and a few drawers I thought would work well. It needed some storage so I added an old maple gable legged table to the bottom. I found some sexy legs that added the extra height it needed. I painted it Antique white and heavily distressed it. My SIL loves NYC so I lined the drawers with pictures of New York.

I sanded a cable spool table then painted it in Queenstown Gray and white wash wood stain both products of General Finishes. with a damp rag blending in colors. I then dry brushed to highlight areas. I applied a French transfer to the top and then sealed it in high performance top coat. I cut the foot out for storage in center of the table. I added another transfer to the door as well. I then used Flat out Flat and then High performance to seal it with. I added rollers to the bottom for easy movement of the table. She's now ready for tea time.

Antique Cypress Door Turned Into 2 Coffee Tables

I was fortunate enough to be recommended to a wonderful family for a project to take their beloved antique Cypress front door (that could no longer be used due to Hurricane/Impact Codes here in South Florida) and turn it into something new. The piece was in rough shape to say the least but after hearing the history on the Door, l agreed to take on the project. First things first, l began the task of sanding off many decades of stains and finish layers and got the door down to original wood. It was quite beautiful under all that reddish brown to faded gray and peeling gunk!

I knew that a project this special required a stain and finish that would compliment the beauty of the wood grain, while blending smoothly with the decades old original finish on the interior side of the door. For me, that meant l would travel 2 hours round trip to pick up what is without a doubt my "go to" products for a piece that has to meet the higher standards of customer's with an eye for details and a project that means a lot to them.

General Finishes "Candlelight" Gel Stain was just what l needed to bring out the subtle reds, the rich browns and hints of that flame amber that a wonderful Cypress door deserves - it's awesome and l love it. The various colors of "Candlelight" just move and change as you walk around the piece giving it depth and richness like no other product on the market.

After just one coat of Gel Stain and 24 hours of dry time, it was time for the first of 3 Coats of General Finishes Arm R Seal Satin Oil and Finish. The result was truly fabulous! The door's original hardware was was touched up and put back on the now "Dutch Door" style Coffee Table. I am happy to report that the clients were very, VERY pleased with their "new" coffee table. It is now the centerpiece of the sitting area and will last for generations of love and laughter over wine with friends and family - Thank You General Finishes for making such wonderful products and keep them coming - l trust your lineup, when it has to be just right - it has to be General Finishes!

Ball and Claw Foot Beauty

I immediately fell in love with this Ball and Claw foot cabinet. I was really unsure what I was going to do with it at first. It previously was a small TV cabinet but I knew that It needed to be repurposed into something more fun and useful. It was the perfect size for a small child's armoire. A perfect place to hang baby clothes or fun costumes. I needed to add a back to the cabinet as well, and I painted strips in General Finishes Antique White Milk Paint and Persian Blue Milk Paint. I gave the piece a good cleaning and a light sand before I started to paint the rest with General Finishes Coral Crush Milk Paint. I used an antiquing gel to tone down the color a bit and give it a worn look. I lightly distressed with a sanding sponge and finished the piece off with three coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat.

This amazing hutch top was being thrown away because it lose it bottom, feet were added, new rustic shelves replaced the glass as well as barnwood recycled as the grand back

Reclaimed medicine cabinet

These radial cut heart Pine boards came from a 100year old house... they had some old teal blue paint that my wife loved... living in a log home, you find that most off the shelf furnishings just seem out of place, so here's my wife's medicine/essential oils cabinet...

the carcass and door are old Heart Pine, scraps of poplar and walnut were hand inletted as we're the hinges... some small magnets were epoxied in to keep it closed....

amber dye stain gave some depth to the old wood and a some danish oil sealed in the color...

Restyled Dresser

We redesigned this 9 drawer dresser into a fully functional vanity and have modified the top drawers to keep them functional as well. The top of the dresser needed to be stripped down to reveal the beautiful cherry wood grain. I used sandpaper starting with 80 grit and worked up to 180 grit. After using tackcloth to remove dust, I applied General Finishes water based stain in antique cherry followed by General Finishes HPTC in satin finish. We cut the holes for the sinks and then mounted the faucets to the sink before attaching the sink to the dresser top with clear silicone. We cut down the top drawers to accommodate the sink and plumbing and modified the drawer runners as well. The dresser then received two coats of paint and General Finishes High Performance Top Coat for additional durability. The drawer pulls were updated with a coat of Rub n Buff in silver.
