The wood drawers were cleaned, repaired, and oiled. The original brass hardware was kept, and polished to a high shine using Brasso. The body was painted using General Finishes Milk Paint in Snow White! It turned out gorgeous!

I found this John Stuart made in North Carolina dresser at a thrift store and scored it for $30, mainly because one of the legs ripped off while they were loading it in my truck. It was painted black and sporting more than it's fair share of scrapes, dings, scratches, stains and even had a pair of someone's old underwear stuck inside the frame. Despite having one too few legs and one too many pairs of strangers underpants, something about this dresser really spoke to me. My husband and i reattached the missing leg (found in a drawer), stripped off the old paint and used candelite gel stain to bring the beautiful wood back to life. I'll never understand why someone hid the wood grain with black paint. Post-makeover, I'm happy to say I'm not the only one who loves this dresser.

Have you ever caughten a glimpse of a piece of furniture - a buffet, a cabinet, a dresser - and instantly knew it was a special piece? That's how this dresser hit me. Just a glimpse at the lines through the dim picture on Facebook told me it was a Harmony House dresser, made of walnut. I knew at that point - it HAD to be mine. It was on a bidding group on Facebook and I fought HARD for it...and won.

After I brought home this amazing 9 drawer, walnut dresser, I went right to work stripping the wall paint (and white primer I found underneath) off. My hope was to restore it completely - all walnut wood with a rub of Danish oil. The previous owners, however, had made other plans for me. At some point in its life, someone had gotten a little too excited with a sander and burned through the veneer in several spots on the cabinet, and two spots on the front facing drawers. I was devistated. I couldn't bare to cover the entire piece of gorgeous walnut wood up with paint. So, I put the drawers back into the dresser and put it off to the side while I worked on other pieces. All the while, Miss Harmony House mocked me from the corner of the room.

One day while doing one of my favorite activites, scrolling through Pinterest, I came across an inverted striped dresser, done in navy and wood. It was done in a rustic fashion, but it gave me an idea. The two burn spots on the drawers were on one side. Maybe I could cover the past mistakes and still maintain some of the original character of the piece? It was worth a shot!

I wanted to keep the piece light, to highlight the dark walnut. After treating the exposed wood areas with natural Danish oil and letting it dry for a week, I chose Antique White Milk Paint by General Finishes to paint the case and the inverted stripe on the front. I let that dry for another week to ensure the oil was completely dried and applied 2 coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Satin. The inverted stripe not only hid the imperfections but it brought to life a new character in this Harmony House dresser!

This is my first time painting with milk paint and really wanted a wow factor. I chose GF Klein Blue because the Hyacinth Macaw is one of my favorite birds and fast forward am in cloud nine after the results. I usually try my best to restore a piece but felt this was a bit challenging with the different stains it had not to mention how bad the brass was. It took me appoximately 4 hrs just to polish the brass handles. I really enjoyed this paint so much that I am looking forward to using GF Graphite on my next project!

The top of this was badly scratched so I filled the cracks with wood filler and painted it in a custom mixed green. The drawers were in good shape so I freshened them up with gel stain.

My client's son wanted a monochromatic gray tone design for this Union Jack MCM dresser. We started with a custom mix of General Finishes Queenstown Gray and Seagull Gray which resulted in this stunning medium gray color. Accents of Snow White and Queenstown Gray completed the color palette. A very subtle amount of black wax was added to the design to give it a little bit of dimension and a worn, vintage look.

Modern Majestic Masterpiece

This Modern Majestic Masterpiece was found at a garage sale where the owner practically wanted to pay me to take it. I wasn't about to leave this beauty behind, so I loaded her up and brought her home. The wood was dull and dry, and it had a wonderful musty smell as if it had been sitting in someone's basement for many years. She was screaming to bring her beauty back in high Mid Century Modern style and that's just what she got!

I cleaned and aired it out good, sanded, and primed it. I painted the body and legs in General Finishes Sea Gull Gray. I then stained the drawer fronts in General Finishes Java Gel stain, and decided on a geometric pattern in General Finishes Persian Blue Milk Paint. The piece was then finished off with three coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat.
